Coco Pops changed a slogan on their packaging after a 10-year-old complained that it was sexist

“In this world today, we shouldn’t just rely on women.”

A YOUNG GIRL in Manchester named Hannah-Marie Clayton was at home with her father when she read the words “Loved by kids, approved by mums” on a cereal box and became frustrated.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Clayton said that her mother Anne-Marie works for an airline and is often away from home, and that her 47-year-old dad James is more than capable of making breakfast.

So when her mam returned home from work, she got Hannah-Marie the address of Kellogg’s UK and helped her to send a letter that read:

I feel that quote is sexist, men are also able to make breakfast. My dad does it a lot for me because my mum works away a lot and is not always there for breakfast. I would recommend instead of putting ‘mums’, put parents or carers. It would just mean a small change. In this world today, we shouldn’t just rely on women.

Clayton also said that people who don’t have a mother might find the packaging upsetting.

It made me think that dads should be included as well because they are important too.

Eventually, Kellogg’s got back to Hannah-Marie.

They told her that the next series of Coco Pops boxes will follow her advice.

I wanted to let you know that we’ve recently renewed our research and our new pack design will refer to approval from both mums and dads.
Apologies for any offence caused and thank you for your feedback, which has played a part in our decision to change.

Kellogg’s told the Manchester Evening News “We have now changed the wording on our new Coco Pops packs to say ‘Approved by Parents’.
